Brett Favre Selected as Madden 09 Cover “Boy”

Madden 09 CoverWhat’s the best way to break the “Madden Curse”? Put a player that is no longer active in the NFL on the cover. Today, EA Sports announced that Brett Favre would be gracing their 2009 edition of John Madden NFL Football. Since Electronic Arts started putting athletes on the cover in 2001, today marks the first time that an inactive player was named the face of the game… or does it?

I have a slight suspicion that all of this media attention and new limelight are going to put a few doubts into Mr. Favre’s head about walking away at this time, again. In fact, the man hasn’t officially filed his retirement papers with the league yet. What’s that tell you?

This doesn’t come as any surprise to me.  It was possibly the first decision made in the franchise by Madden himself. Favre has been giving him boners for 20 years now… why not go out with a bang.

But wait… how about just one more season…

The next Madden roster update… I mean, Madden 09, is scheduled to hit shelves on August 12. Check out the first 3 screenshots over at TheManRoom.
