Alltech’s Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company was recently recognized for their high quality brews by judges in Lexington, Kentucky and Chicago, Illinois. These awards are one of many the brewery has received over the past few years, including the silver and bronze medals at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado.
Kentucky Ale was once again named the “Best Beer” at the 2009 Taste of the Bluegrass. This award marks the 5th consecutive year that Alltech’s Lexington Brewing Company has been awarded at the annual event. Kentucky Ale was named “best beer” the past 4 years and won the “best alcoholic beverage” distinction in 2005.
Kentucky Ale is not Alltech’s only beer to be recognized recently. Kentucky Light received a silver medal at the 2009 World Beer Championships held at Beverage Testing Institute in Chicago. The Beverage Testing Institute is dedicated to beverage testing consistency with a lab specially designed to minimize external factors and maximize panelists’ concentration. Each tasting is done under the same ideal conditions, rather than at a brewery where variation could occur. Panelists are highly experienced professional guest tasters, ranging from retailers and restauranteurs, to prominent writers. Kentucky Light scored an 85, placing it in the “highly recommended” rating class. Kentucky Light joins Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale and Kentucky Ale which previously received gold and silver medals respectively.
“Now all three of Alltech’s Lexington Brewing Company’s beers have been awarded either a gold or silver medal at the 2009 World Beer Championships,” said Alltech president Pearse Lyons. “As the official beer of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games we are committed to providing high quality beers to not only Kentuckians, but to our visitors from abroad. These awards confirm our efforts.”
Kentucky Ale, Kentucky Light and Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale are Lexington’s only locally-brewed beers. Located in the heart of downtown, Alltech’s Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company has been creating award-winning beers since 2000 with the release of its flagship beer, Kentucky Ale. Kentucky Light debuted in 2003, and Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale completed Kentucky’s Triple Crown of Beers in 2006.
