2010 MLB Double Play Contest: Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies Lead the Pack

dplay-utleyWelcome to your first statistical update on the 2010 TMRzoo Major League Baseball Double Play and Grand Slam Contests. If this is the first time you are hearing about this contest, please read on below to find out how to enter. It couldn’t be any easier or more fun.

So far this season, it is the Philadelphia Phillies who are dominating BOTH the most runs scored and least runs allowed categories. So far, in 7 games, the Phillies have scored 50 runs while only allowing 22 to score. They lead the entire major leagues in both of those categories. That comes out to scoring 7 runs a game while only letting 3 score. That is for the entire season so far, and none of those count in this week’s voting period, which is the prediction for the week of 4/18.

Over the past week of baseball it is the LA Dodgers and the Colorado Rockies who have been hot. And no… the Rockies don’t lead the runs scored category for the past seven days, they have amazingly only allowed 15 runs to score over 5 games. The Dodgers have scored 40 runs in six games, one better than the juggernaut Phillies over that 7-day time period.

There have been many entries for the Phillies on both sides of the ball, so we may just get a winner in the very first week of the contest. The Yankees earned over 20% of the votes in the first entry period, but the Phillies were the second most popular team with 13% for offense. Not too many picked the Rockies though, with the Washington Nationals earning the most votes. Unfortunately, they were shelled by the Phillies earlier in the week giving up 26 runs in their 3-game series.

For those who don’t know what the hell I’m talking about, entering the Double Play contest couldn’t be easier. Essentially, all you need to do is pick two Major League Baseball teams. Using the drop down boxes on the entry page, pick the professional team you think will score the most runs in the upcoming week, then pick the team that will give up the least amount of runs. After you’ve selected your teams, guess the actual number of runs for each category in the fields provided. Each week we will update you on the top scoring teams in the league as well as the teams that allow the least amount of runs.

To win the week 2 prize, you must correctly identify the two teams. The scores you entered will be used to break any ties in the Double Play. The prize for week 2 is a copy of The Fourth Kind on DVD. See the prizing page for more details.

If nobody can guess the two teams correctly, then no one wins the prize and it rolls over into week 3… and combined with another prize. The longer we go without a weekly winner, the bigger the prize pack becomes.

Once you’ve entered the TMR Zoo Double Play, you are automatically entered into the Jagermeister Grand Slam. If you have correctly guessed the two teams AS WELL as the exact number of runs scored and allowed, you have hit the Jager Grand Slam and win the Jagermeister 6-Bottle Shot Cooler.

Jagermeister, the brand known for pioneering the original bar party, with its signature Jagerettes, ground-breaking Tap Machine and category-changing Ice Cold Shots, is proud to introduce the newest innovation – the revolutionary new Jagermeister 6-Bottle Shot Cooler. The 6-Bottle shot cooler comes with six 750ml bottles and 50 shot cups – Just add ice and the party begins! You must be over 21 to win.
