Week 1 of the 2010 TMR Zoo Double Play Contest is in the books and we have our first set of results. Unfortunately, we don’t have a winner. As we mentioned in a previous article, offensive powerhouses such as the Phillies and Dodgers started the week off hot, and then the runs dwindled down to nothing in the final days of week 1.
It was the Florida Marlins who led the majors in runs scored in our first week of the contest. Jorge Cantú had a little something to do with that by hitting 2 homers, scoring 7 runs and knocking in 11 runs all by himself. The Marlins scored 45 runs over the course of the week, but not a single entrant picked them to be the top scorer of the week.
On the pitching side of things, the Oakland Athletics allowed the least amount of runs to score, keeping opposing base runners to scoring only 18 times. This is a pretty impressive feat considering that the A’s did not have a single day off in the week 1 time period unlike most other teams in the league.
The most popular teams for week 1 were the New York Yankees for runs scored and the Arizona Diamondbacks for least runs allowed. 21% of members who entered selected the Yankees and 16% of you selected the D-Backs. Better luck next week.
Since we did not have a winner, the week 1 prize rolls over into week 2 and a new prize is added to the pot. On top of the DVD copy of The Fourth Kind, we are now adding The Katt Box, a 3 CD set of Katt Williams albums. See the Double Play main prize page for the details.
Its now time to enter your week 2 picks. Entering the Double Play contest couldn’t be easier. Essentially, all you need to do is pick two Major League Baseball teams. Using the drop down boxes on the entry page, pick the professional team you think will score the most runs in the upcoming week, then pick the team that will give up the least amount of runs. After you’ve selected your teams, guess the actual number of runs for each category in the fields provided. Each week we will update you on the top scoring teams in the league as well as the teams that allow the least amount of runs.
To win the week 3 prize, you must correctly identify the two teams. The scores you entered will be used to break any ties in the Double Play. If nobody can guess the two teams correctly, then no one wins the prize and it rolls over into the next week… and combined with another prize. The longer we go without a weekly winner, the bigger the prize pack becomes.
