Revenge Of The Shogun At UFC 113

Mauricio Shogun RuaThe upcoming UFC 113 event at the Bell Centre in Quebec, Canada features a light heavyweight title fight between Lyoto Machida and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua.

This fight is sure to have UFC and MMA fans licking their lips in anticipation of what is sure to be a major grudge match.

The pair have fought before. At UFC 104, the unbeaten Machida was awarded the victory in what proved to be controversial fashion. Although all three judges scored the bout 48-47 in Machida’s favour, many big names in Mixed Martial Arts, including UFC supremo, Dana White, felt that ‘Shogun’ had won the fight. Other fighters to have questioned the judges scoring included UFC legends like Randy Couture, Vitor Belfort and Thiago Silva.

Now, on May 8th 2010, Rua has his chance to right what he and many others saw as a wrong. UFC 113 could be the revenge of the Shogun.

Matt Greene, of established UFC blog, UFCBettingToday.com, commented:

“This is the rematch that all MMA fans have been looking forward to. There’s no doubt in my mind that ‘Shogun’ was robbed the first time he and Machida fought. Rua definitely won rounds one, four and five. You only need to review footage of the fight to see that.”

However, Greene added a word of caution:

“It would be a great story if UFC 113 was really Shogun’s revenge, but Machida is still the favorite to win. His style combines Sumo, Karate and Ju-Jitsu, which is a devastating combination. And, don’t forget, Machida has beaten other great mixed martial artists like Thiago Silva and B.J Penn.”

UFC and MMA fans all over the world will be tuning in on May 8th, 2010 to see if, this time, Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua can achieve the victory so many feel he deserves.
