With all the firepower they have on their pitching staff you’d think the San Francisco Giants would top the least runs allowed category for more weeks than they have in 2010. This is only the second time the Giants have topped the list, and they are sharing this honor this week. New to this category and co-winner in week 17 are the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves.
What the Braves did last week, we haven’t seen yet this season… they allowed the least amount of runs to opponents while playing EVERY DAY throughout the statistical week. Usually, a team has one day off in that 7-day span, but the Braves did not have one scheduled. Ironically, the Braves played the co-winning Giants in three games during week 17. The scores were 3-2, 2-3 and 3-0. Atlanta did not allow more than 3 runs in any game played last week.
Our offensive winner for week 17 was the Houston Astros. Yes, THOSE Houston Astros, the 47-63 Houston Astros. An 18-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals sealed the deal for them last week. A 4-hit, 6 RBI performance by SS Angel Sánchez helped them in that single endeavor.
We actually had two guesses for the Astros this week, but nobody matched them up with the Braves or Giants. There were no Atlanta guesses, but 5% of entrants had the Giants as allowing the least runs.
The Yankees led BOTH categories in voting this week, getting slightly more for runs scored than allowed.
Since there was no winner, its time to add another prize to the pot. This week we’re upping the ante and adding a Punch Cigar 3-Pack in a smoker tin with a $100 coupon off a Char-Broil Grill inside. Get it now while the summer grilling season is still in gear! Good Luck. Click below to make your week 19 entry.
Entering the Double Play contest couldn’t be easier. Essentially, all you need to do is pick two Major League Baseball teams. Using the drop down boxes on the entry page, pick the professional team you think will score the most runs in the upcoming week, then pick the team that will give up the least amount of runs. After you’ve selected your teams, guess the actual number of runs for each category in the fields provided. Each week we will update you on the top scoring teams in the league as well as the teams that allow the least amount of runs.
To win the prize, you must correctly identify the two teams. The scores you entered will be used to break any ties in the Double Play. If nobody can guess the two teams correctly, then no one wins the prize and it rolls over into the next week… and combined with another prize. The longer we go without a weekly winner, the bigger the prize pack becomes. Check the main prizing page to see how big the pot is now.
Once you’ve entered the TMR Zoo Double Play, you are automatically entered into the Jagermeister Grand Slam. If you have correctly guessed the two teams AS WELL as the exact number of runs scored and allowed, you have hit the Jager Grand Slam and win the Jagermeister 6-Bottle Shot Cooler.
Jagermeister, the brand known for pioneering the original bar party, with its signature Jagerettes, ground-breaking Tap Machine and category-changing Ice Cold Shots, is proud to introduce the newest innovation – the revolutionary new Jagermeister 6-Bottle Shot Cooler.
