The NFL has named it’s AFC and NFC offensive and defensive players of the week for week 14 of the 2010 football season. DeSean Jackson, wide receiver of the Philadelphia Eagles and Malcolm Jenkins, safety for the New Orleans Saints have earned the NFC honors. In the AFC, it was Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback Peyton Manning, and Pittsburgh Steelers’ safety Troy Polamalu.
Both defensive stand-out were named as player of the week already in 2010, with Polamalu being named just last week. The offensive players of the week are no stranger to his honor either. This is DeSean Jackson’s fourth time on the list (twice on offense, twice on special teams) and Manning’s 21st time getting the honor.
Ironically, this is the first time this season that Peyton is receiving the award. In fact NO ONE on the Colts has won the award in 2010 prior to this week. Manning is a weekly favorite as picked by members to win the award in our Jagermeister Player of the Week contest. He was the favorite again this week, but ironically, no one matched him up with either Polamalu or Jenkins. No one picked DeSean Jackson this week, probably because of his recent pouting and contract issues with his team.
Tom Brady was matched up with Troy a few times, which would have been a winner last week. Since no one picked the exact combination again, the Jagermeister 6-Bottle Shot cooler goes back in the prize closet for another week. There are only three more chances to win this season.
Voting is already open for week 15 so you can enter this week’s “Beat the House” and Jagermeister Player of the Week contests RIGHT NOW. For those of you unfamiliar with our contest, it is twofold. First, you agree or disagree with our “House” picks for week 15. Then you enter your guesses for two players who you think will be named by the NFL as players of the week. The two contests are entered at the same time, but run independently, so you can win one or both in any given week. Click the link above to enter and get the official rules and details. You can win a DVD prize pack, a Nerf Pro Grip Football and/or a Jagermeister 6-bottle shot cooler.
