Ovie Mughelli of the Atlanta Falcons Makes Pro Bowl History

Ovie Mughelli, Fullback for the Atlanta Falcons, has been selected for the 2011 Pro Bowl in the NFC Division. This is Mughelli’s first Pro Bowl nomination in his eight-year career in the National Football League. Mughelli also has made history for the Atlanta Falcons, as the first ever Fullback to be selected into the Pro Bowl. A Wake Forest graduate where Mughelli got his first taste of the Fullback position, the NFC Pro Bowl selection is a major milestone after much success as a starting, lead blocker for the Falcons offense.

“It is an extreme honor to make the Pro Bowl this year and to be considered the best Fullback in the NFC, especially with such a high caliber of Fullbacks,” says Mughelli. “This is something I’ve been working toward since I entered the NFL, and there are no words to describe how excited I am to finally reach this goal. Since college I’ve watched great Pro Bowl Fullbacks like Moose Johnson, Lorenzo Neal and Mike Alstott separate themselves from average by being more than just a blocker – but being a well-rounded asset to the team. I want to thank my teammates, especially my O-line, Michael Turner, Jason Snelling and Matt Ryan, and I thank the whole Falcons organization for believing in my ability to help the Falcons win and giving me an opportunity to play for the greatest team in the NFL.”

Ovie is an eight-year NFL veteran, signed by the Atlanta Falcons in March 2007 and a 4th round draft pick for the Baltimore Ravens in 2003. One of the biggest Fullbacks in the NFL, Ovie is known for being a power blocker, for being able to pick up blitzes, and has one of the best special team minds in the game. Ovie had a breakout 2009 season, as the coveted blocker. A Fullback in college for Wake Forest, Ovie, who was raised in Charleston, South Carolina, was selected for All ACC First-Team in that position. He started every game in his senior year as a Demon Deacon, coming in with the third highest rushing touchdown record in school history. He was rated the number one Fullback by USA Today.

In high school, Mughelli attended the exclusive Porter-Gaud School in Charleston, South Carolina. He was an outstanding student and a letterman in football, basketball, tennis, and track & field. In football, he rushed for more than 4,500 yards and scored 69 touchdowns during his high school career.

Currently, Ovie maintains his position as a starting Fullback with the Falcons. He is heavily involved with his community, especially through his Ovie Mughelli Foundation, which empowers the youth to take ownership and pride about their lives and the roles that they play in society. The Foundation emphasizes assisting quality programs that educate the youth on the environment.
