The intense Dead Island trailer that aired a few days ago sparked rumors that developer Deep Silver had sold movie rights to the IP. While there has been a lot of interest in the property, Deep Silver has refuted claims that there was a film production in progress or even planned – neither the film rights or any other licenses have been sold yet.
That’s not to say Deep Silver is not interested in a film adaptation – they state they’re being picky about who they will allow to buy the license. According to Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Deep Silver’s parent company Koch Media:
“We are looking for quality above all else for a movie based on Dead Island. We want to do it the right way as film realizations of games (or vice versa) usually fail to deliver what the fans were looking for. We will not go down this route with Dead Island. Deep Silver profoundly believes in the quality and value of its Dead Island IP. We would therefore be honored to work with someone who already has a proven track record with blockbuster movies.”
