Cam Newton 2011 NFL Draft Contest Update: Mock Drafts and Travel Plans

It has been reported that nine NFL teams have set up appointments with Mr. Cameron Newton to take a closer look at what he can bring to the table, prior to the 2011 NFL Amateur Draft. Critics still appear to be split on how Cam’s abilities can translate to the speed of the NFL, but it looks like nine teams still consider him a level 1 quarterback prospect.

Newton’s busy appointment schedule is as follows. The position of the team’s first overall pick in the draft is shown after their name:

Sunday March 27 – Miami Dolphins (15); Monday March 28 – Buffalo Bills (3); Wednesday March 30 – Minnesota Vikings (12); Sunday April 3, 4 – Cincinnati Bengals (4); Tuesday April 5 – Carolina Panthers (1); Wednesday April 6 – Tennessee Titans (8); Tuesday April 12 – Cincinnati Bengals (4); Wednesday April 13 – Cleveland Browns (6); Friday April 15 – Washington Redskins (10); Monday April 18 – Denver Broncos (2)

Yes, you read that correctly, the Cincinnati Bengals have three days worth of appointments and/or workouts already schedule with Cam Newton. Hmmmmm. Two other teams on this list pick ahead of the Bengals, but don’t put it past them to put a package together to swap picks with one of them. The deal could possibly include the Bengals former franchise, and now disgruntled, QB Carson Palmer.

A few of the teams listed above have already been popular guesses in our currently-running Cam Newton Draft Contest. Unlike last year when our draft contest featured Tim Tebow (whose Broncos have an appointment with Newton), Cam is earning a vast majority of first round pick votes. In fact, the first pick overall by the Carolina Panthers has been the most popular pick so far with almost 20% of entries picking that combination. The Bengals and Bills are tied for second with 10% each.

Of course, there is always the possibility that none of the teams listed above pick him.
