Shmaltz Brewing At New York Craft Beer Week’s Premier Events

Shmaltz Brewing Company, Southpaw, Smuttynose and Beertender Brooklyn present the 4th Annual FREAKTOBERFEST® Boutique Beer & Music Festival happening on Friday, September 16, 2011 at Southpaw (125 5th Avenue, Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY). FREAKTOBERFEST® is the official kick-off party for the 4th Annual NY Craft Beer Week. The event will take place from 7 pm – 1 am. The upcoming 4th Annual FREAKTOBERFEST® marks the seasonal launch of Coney Island Freaktoberfest®. Shmaltz boils and toils upon 6 malts and 6 hops in their stainless steel cauldrons to conjure a 6.66% ABV blood-red lager. This bewitching Fall attraction is a tasty treat available from September through Halloween. 4-packs of 12 oz. bottles and a very limited supply of kegs will appear at specialty shops and select bars throughout NYC and the US starting September 2011.

Official Beer of the 4th Annual NY Craft Beer Week: Geektoberfest®
A second-year collaboration from Shmaltz Brewing, Captain Lawrence Brewing, and Ithaca Beer Company, Geektoberfest® is a blend of six barrel-aged beers originally brewed in New York and will be the official beer of the 4th Annual NY Craft Beer Week. The collaboration represents each brewery’s exuberant determination to make New York a destination for the finest craft beer in the country. -Monday, September 19, 2011: Zagat Presents & NY Craft Beer Week Host “The Ultimate Brewmaster’s Degustation” Beer Dinner @ Resto (111 E. 29th Street, 7 pm). Resto will present an epic six-course beer dinner featuring seven of the country’s most notable breweries, including Shmaltz Brewing. This farm-to-table feast will include their house-made charcuterie and unique Belgian-inspired offerings, set to two beer pairings per course! Each of the paired beers are chosen to offer you two distinct (and possibly opposite) interpretations of matching great food with great beer.

-Wednesday, September 21, 2011: Just Food: Let Us Eat Local Annual Fundraiser (The Altman Building, 135 W. 18th Street: VIP 6 pm, GA 7 pm). Just Food will offer a unique tasting session featuring foods from the city’s top restaurants that use ingredients from local food vendors and suppliers in their daily menus. The event will also feature tastings from eight local breweries, all of which are located within 150 miles of NYC, including Brooklyn Brewery, Six Point, Ommegang, Shmaltz, Captain Lawrence, Kelso, Harlem Brewing, and Southampton.

-Thursday, September 22, 2011: Brewer’s Choice (City Winery, 155 Varick St). 15 Brewmasters, including Jeremy Cowan from Shmaltz Brewing, will present their best beers and favorite food pairings in an intimate walk-around tasting event for more than 400 people.
