Blu-ray Review: Hanna Is Jason Statham Packed Into The Body of a 16 Year Old Girl

Hanna is a pleasant surprise for action movie fans. I must be honest and admit I was not excited to sit down and watch a coming of age film starting a 16 year old girl. Within the first 2 minutes of the film my preconceptions of Hanna were gone. Hanna is a heart pumping action film that will keep you at the edge of your seat for most of this sci-fi thriller.

This is not Spy Kids. Hanna is Jason Statham packed into the body of a 16 year old girl. This is a violent little chick. For this reason Hanna is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, some sexual material and language.

The blu-ray disk show beautiful panoramic scenes as Hanna treks from the snow covered forests of Finland to the deserts of Morocco. The soundtrack is woven cleverly into the film. The sound is over the top – being a long time Chemical Brothers fan I recognized their music right off the bat.  Like all Chemical Brothers music the soundtrack has tons of bass that will push your sub-woofer to the limit.

The movie sets up fairly well for a sequel which I would be one of the first in line at the theater to watch.

OVERVIEW: Award-winning director Joe Wright (Atonement, The Soloist) unleashes the “exhilarating, audacious and boldly original” (Karen Durbin, Elle) in Focus Features’ action-packed film HANNA, available on Blu-ray™, DVD, Digital Download and On-Demand on September 6, 2011 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. Academy Award® nominee Saoirse Ronan (Atonement, The Lovely Bones) stars as Hanna, a 16-year-old girl raised in the desolate, icy wilds of Finland by her ex-CIA agent father Erik (Eric Bana Star Trek, Hulk) and trained to become the perfect assassin.

Every moment of Hanna’s childhood and adolescence has been spent building up the strength, stamina and survival instincts she needs to prepare for the day she must strike out on her own. That day has now come; armed with the skills her father has imparted to her and the mantra “adapt or die,” Hanna must cross Europe and face her family’s longtime enemy, lethal intelligence operative Marissa Wiegler (Academy Award® winner Cate Blanchett Robin Hood, Elizabeth).

Featuring a ground-breaking original soundtrack from The Chemical Brothers and filmed on location in Finland, Berlin and Morocco, HANNA is “an exuberant chase thriller that pulses with energy!” (Justin Chang, Variety)
