Gearbox has announced that their upcoming sci-fi shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines will feature female marines, both as multiplayer skins as well as a playable co-op partner by the name of Jennifer Redding.
Having female marines was not part of the original game. Producer Brian Burleson stated in an interview that Aliens: Colonial Marines would not have any playable female marines, which angered fans of the series since characters like Ripley and Vasquez have been tough, gun-toting heroes. This led to an online petition, and this time it worked.
According to Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford:
“We realized some people were starting to feel bad. We exist to entertain people.”
Kinda patronizing there, Randy.
