On September 16th Martin Scorsese’s Boardwalk Empire returns to HBO for its third season. The excitement and anticipation are mounting as viewers get ready to find out what happens next with Nucky Thompson and the bootlegging business. The acclaimed drama is guaranteed to draw millions of viewers, and I’m sure many of you will be tuning in as well.

When you sit down to enjoy the depiction of bootlegging and prohibition as the show moves into the year of 1923, share some perfect old-timey spirits that were enjoyed during the1920’s and are still available (and on the uprising) today. Whether it be for a prohibition-themed viewing party or just an avid fan’s favorite night of TV, these classic cocktail recipes are sure to enhance the mood and bring them a taste of the 1920’s.

Atlantic City Devil 
1 part Jim Beam Devil’s Cut
2 parts Ginger Beer
Juice of ½ lime & shell

Fill a double old fashioned glass ¾ with ice, squeezed the lime half and drop in the shell then add remaining ingredients.

Black Cherry Bootlegger 
2 parts Jim Beam Black® Bourbon
1 part sweet vermouth
1 part dry vermouth Splash of grenadine
1 cherry 1 stuffed olive

Preparation Combine and stir the Jim Beam Black® Bourbon, the sweet and dry vermouths, and the grenadine with ice. Serve in a rocks glass over ice or strain and pour into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry and an olive.

Nucky Sour 
1-1/2 parts Jim Beam® Bourbon
1 part lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon sugar

Preparation To 1 part lemon juice add 1/2 teaspoon sugar, add 1-1/2 parts Jim Beam® Bourbon. Garnish with lemon or orange wedge and a cherry.
