Here is a great tailgating recipe that will give your southern bar-b-que a Canadian kick. This is a great sauce to brush on your grilled chicken, ribs or steak. I have even used this sauce on grilled vegetables. There is nothing like a great whiskey BBQ sauce that has a nice balance of sweetness and spice. The Crown Royal whiskey in this recipe give this sauce that extra kick.
Ingredients
2 cups ketchup
1 cup water
1/4 cup Crown Royal Maple
6 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 cup of molasses
1/2 tablespoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1/4 cup of minced onion
1/2 tablespoon ground mustard
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Mix your ingredients in a sauce pan and bring it to a gentle simmer for 10 – 15 minutes until it reaches the desired consistency. It is that simple, the sauce is ready for a great grilling session. If you would like to use this sauce as a marinade add a 1/4 cup of malt vinegar and a cup of Coke to the mixture.
I would suggest letting your meats sit in the marinade for at least 48 hours, I tend to let my meats rest in the marinade for 72 hours for maximum tenderness and flavor.
