Guitar Gear Review: Gravity Picks – Attack, Attack, Attack

Guitar players often overlook the most important part of their tone, their pick. Most guitar players find a pick, coin or some other method to pluck their stings and stick with it. In doing this you are robbing yourself of a palette of tones. You should vary you picks the way an artist uses his brushes or a golfer selects their clubs.

Think of your sting as a large bell. If you struck it with a rolled up magazine you would get a tone. A rubber mallet would give you yet another tone and a sledge hammer would produce yet another sound. Now apply this theory to your guitar. Different picks will give different sounds and attacks. The shape, material and thickness will all attribute to tone. One company that understands this better than others is Gravity Guitar Picks.

Gravity Guitar Picks have a variety of shapes and styles to accommodate any player or style. I have been using the Gravity picks in rotation with my go-to favorites and the Gravity picks are working themselves to the top of the rotation.

In most cases I like a thick pick with a sharp point for my lead work. Gravity Guitar Picks has a lot of options that fit that bill. I particularly fell in love with the Gravity Razer. The Razer is a standard sized pick with a narrow taper and sharper point. They are also available with a polished or unpolished edge.

The bevels on each pick are shaped on a grinding wheel which creates rough bevels. Those bevels are then polished or left unpolished (which we call ‘Master Finish’). The unpolished version is a bit brighter and creates a different release off the string. It allows you to ‘dig in’ a bit more. It is just a personal preference.

What I truly love about Gravity Guitar Picks is the grip hole. The grip hole not only ensures you are not dropping picks but also anchors it firmly in your fingers. This allows you to more accurately attack the strings giving you cleaner more articulate runs.

Not only does Gravity Guitar Picks have countless shape, sizes and grip options for their picks they also have a custom shop. Yes, you can pamper yourself like a rockstar and have your own signature picks made at a reasonable price.

Gravity Guitar Picks will have you playing cleaner, clearer and with more varrity of tone. I would suggest starting with their Package Deals to get a feel for all of the different options they have available. You can find out more on these great picks on GravityPicks.com
