Netflix, Inc. (NFLX) announced today the launch of Netflix View a free streaming platform now available on all devices. Netflix View will feature all popular Netflix originals including Orange is the New Black, House of Cards and the breakout show Stranger Things. Also included in the service will be content from other providers and a limited run of movies.
To support the new platform, Netflix is including commercials and ads on the Netflix View service. Subscribers will also be limited to view past episodes of Netflix originals. The current seasons will only be available for premium subscribers.
Netflix spokesperson Oliver Kloushoff in a release today said: “this is a great way for us to introduce a new audience to Netflix originals. It is our hope some of the free subscribers become premium subscribers once introduced to the content.”
Not all are happy with Netflix’s decision to make this content available free. Bryan Fischer spokesman for the American Family Association feels the free service is an attack on family values. Fischer told reporters.“ this free service allows any child with an internet connection access to some very dangerous content.” Fisher then expounded “Netflix originals focus on drugs, casual sex, and adult situations. This content should not be available for free on our children’s phones and computer.”
Despite the uproar from some family groups Netflix View is now available on XBOX One, the Playstation platform, tablets of course phones via an app. Smart TV and desktop users can log in directly by signing up for an account on Netflix.com
