Full Version: I played through a Mesa triple rec for the first time yesterday.

I had to get my guitar set up at GC yesterday (since my normal tech passed away). Once the guy was done with it, I plugged into the Mesa they had. I can see why people like them. Cranked up with a nice TS clone in front, this amp would roar.
I love the sounds that other people get from them, but I lack the capability to dial those bad boys in.
Turn the bass down and the treble up. Keep the mids above the bass. I'm told that the treble control adds gain.

Those are the instructions that I found for dialing in a Mark 4. Not sure if it works the same for rectos, though.
That sounds like it will work. I've rarely found an amp that reacts the way my brain thinks it should to eq adjustments.
To tell you the truth, I never had to change any settings on the triple rec, I think it was the favorite amp in the store for the employees to play with.
I'm glad you dug it man.

Is it enough to move you away from the app you were talking about?
I can't get along with rectos. The response of the loose hollow mids and lows just doesn't mesh with my playing style. It's not immediate enough, not cutting enough, not articulate enough.

They do have a very distinct sound though...sadly I've honestly never really cared for those tones.
Hmm - My Dual Recto (Solo head) takes EL34's. Is the Triple 6L6 only?

Might be the ticket for the hollow mids issue. I always used mine that way.
I dont mind them at all. But I have never played a tube amp that i liked more than my peavey. hehe

God no.

For now, the app is doing what I want. Some day I'd like to have a decent board and a Mark 4.

The triple rectifier is by no means my holy grail, it's definitely less articulate than I like. But it's a cool amp, nonetheless.
