The whole episode was kinda lame but it set up for some good new ones.

They had way too many black people. Every time they bring in a new black character they kill one off.

You really didn't miss a lot.
The episode sucked. The last five minutes was the best part. That portion was well written, well shot, and well acted.
The rest of it was a convoluted mess of faux "symbolism" for the sake of filling an hour.
I thought the "friend" would be Morgan.
IDK tho. He could be ex-Woodbury.
