Just started thinking about some of the ways I screwed up my Strat and did some searching on the interwebs. Came up with this 12" square of 1/8' thick rubber for 3 bucks and change [Image: StratBridge006.jpg] So I cut a piece off and put a little super glue in the Floyd recessed space that is too deep [Image: StratBridge004.jpg] Now some new strings and a setup , oil is soaking into the fretboard as I type. Should be able to pull on the bar as far up as it will go without the strings hitting the fretboard , but I will lose this one good note I can get out of when that happens , shucks. Yes it is pretty dusty and dirty and the rustoleum will never look good.
That's how they do it from the factory, albeit just to hide an ugly rout.

Funny thing...I actually paid somebody to deepen the rout for better pull ups on an old Washburn, of course, I generally play with higher action than you do.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
That thing was 5/16" deep at the front and in various spots. How much did you pay for that ? Generally they use a different sort of rubber blend , this is pure rubber so it will have some give and bounce to it.Still going to have plenty of pull , it just won't lay the strings on the fretboard anymore.
It was probably a solid 3/4" lower when they were done with it. It could easily fret out during a squeal but I appreciated the extra range and adapted to it.
Put 11s on it and tuned it a 1/2 step down , feels weird. Might have to go with something half as thick for the pad , lost a lot of pull. Change is bad always!
Ordered a 12 x 12 by 1/16 " thick piece today . Place online called Zoro ships fast and arrived almost overnight for 5 bucks shipping.Eventually recess routing the Futura so I am going to need to have it for that. Blah, blah,blah...
Removed the 1/8" piece and put in the new 1/16" , tweaked it a little and got it to feeling right. Now I have to raise the action a little because it is fretting out some and it will be back to being its nasty , vicious self. This piece is Silicone rubber instead of Neoprene , somewhat shinier and slicker but not as compressible.
After a lot of playing with every possible adjustment on this guitar I can't come to a definitive conclusion. Tuned a 1/2 step down with 11s should give me enough stiffness/tension and still play/fret easily. For some unknown (Jimi) reason I have that , all Strats should be tuned a 1/2 step down thing bouncing around in my head. The crappy CV Squire feels pretty good now with 10s tuned a 1/2 step down with only 2 springs on the Babicz bridge. Just can't seem to like this guitar as much as I used to like this for some unknown reason. Besides being a poor, greatly tortured piece of wood with some nice parts I have had it for over 15 years.
Pics?
