How much better can it be than kosher salt?
I dunno about roasted salt, but SMOKED salt is a wondrous thing of beauty.

It's salt alright, but mingled with the delightful aroma of hickory smoke (at least the one I got was hickory smoked).

It was a lot nicer of a way to add smokiness to a recipe than say liquid smoke which tends to taste a lot more chemically and goes from 0 to overkill in a matter of mere droplets.

Only drawback is that the more smoked salt you get, the more saltiness you get in addition to more smokiness. I found that the best balance is using a bit of liquid smoke and a bit of smoked salt at the same time. Of course better than that is just using a proper friggin smoker.
