It's when you cut the fretboard at an angle.
I just got some material for a fretboard. The wood is blond and looks a lot like maple but it isn't. Can anyone guess?

Nothing beats balsa! Its a great hardwood.
Balsa wood is used for making decks on sea going sailing ships.
