My new guitar project - Securb - 07-29-2009

This is my latest project guitar. It is another Iceman this time a 1980. What I am doing is a cross between a Iceman and a Gretsch (Stop scratching your head). The guitar was customized (hacked) in the 80ââ¬â¢s and was turned into a single pickup guitar, the rhythm pickup and the pickup selector switch were filled in.
I had the guitar sprayed a retro silver sparkle before the guitar is sprayed I filled in the tail piece holes, control knob holes and pickup screw holes. So all of those surfaces will be clean and I can drill in new holes for the controls
I am going to leave it a single pickup guitar sort of. I put in a classic TV Jones pickup to give me cool surf, jazz, classic rock tones. To emulate the sound of a 60's hollow body Gretsch I am also putting in a pezio pickup to add some acoustic tones. A fishman bridge with a powerchip.
The guitar is finished of with Spezel locking tuners and a Bigsby vibrato bridge.

Pretty cool, I just checked out your page detailing the process...I love shit like that. I half assed redid a guitar and a bass many years ago.

I have an old Washburn acoustic that due to changes in humidity developed a crack in the body from the sound hole down to the bottom of the upper body board...does that make sense? Anyway, is there a way to fix the crack? It doesn't affect the sound at all...I just wonder if it needs to be fixed or can I just leave it and tell people my wife hit me with the guitar...giving the crack a much cooler reason for existence.

If it doesnt affect the sound or playability leave it. To put a new top on it would be around $500. You might want to neatly fill the crack with a epoxy like Gorilla Glue so that the crack doesn't spread and to seal the body.

I checked out the site. It's awesome you have someone with that skill close by. I'd have a lumberjack with a chainsaw, file, and hatchet working on mine.

Pat is about 45 Min's from me. I drive by a dozen repair shops to get to him. The amazing thing is when I am at his shop the UPS\FedEx\USPS shipping guys are bringing in guitars from all over the country.
I am surprised Gator did have a comment on the guitar he watched me play that axe all through high school. I get the feeling he didn't recognize the new color.
