RE: Today is a good day - karpathion - 05-13-2016 I thought those cabs were bigger than that. There is always the tried and true Governor/Wizard combo. They work well with Fuzz. And, since it sounds like you use the Bassman as a clean platform for pedals it would work great. I used that combo for a year before getting the Swamp Thangs I kept for years. RE: Today is a good day - lreese - 05-13-2016 EV's. Trust me. Rounder than say, Celestion 12-80s, but be prepared for the weight. Ought to be pretty bitchin' with that Bassman. I've thought about reloading a set in one of my THD cabs. RE: Today is a good day - karpathion - 05-13-2016 (05-13-2016, 08:07 PM)lreese Wrote: EV's. Trust me. +1 I was trying to save his wallet... RE: Today is a good day - lreese - 05-13-2016 He's got deep pockets. ;) Eminence makes clones - I hear they made the real thing at one time. RE: Today is a good day - lreese - 05-13-2016 Ahem... https://wgs4.com/12-wgs12l-200-watts A little less efficient, but I've heard good comments about them. Fuzz pedals and clean 6l6 power really need a lower power rating driver. That amp already pushes some tight ass end, plus the cab is huge and ported, and he uses fuzz. Low power, high sensitivity drivers would kill in that setup. I'd try to stay at 16ohm too for fidelity.]I'm kinda wierd too, so don't look too far into it. If my speakers don't clip with a heavy Fuzz tone, It's time to find a new driver. (.) (.) RE: Today is a good day - Agileguy - 05-14-2016 You know, I was actually going to pick up a pair of EVMs (well the Eminence clones, I don't want to drop $500 on two speakers). But not for the Earcandy - for the Mesa. ...oh wait, I forgot to tell you guys about the Mesa I picked up a few weeks ago. Stand by. RE: Today is a good day - Agileguy - 05-14-2016 Ok, so I want to get a pair of EVMs for the 4x12, and definitely not for the Earcandy. Why definitely, you ask? Well I've used the EVM with the Bassman, and to be honest, I'm not a fan of the pairing. Now part of it could have been the C90 in the top of that cab, but I just found it kind of... meh. Tastes like chicken. Now to be clear, I don't run my bassman clean when I'm playing at jam/gig volumes. I've usually got it set up at over the edge of breakup - a little less gain than, say, AC/DC. I get all of my cleans by rolling back my guitar's volume. I'm with you on low power, high sensitivity speakers, Karp. I'm thinking a pair of speakers that are somewhere between 40-80W each, though I'm not totally tied to that requirement. When I had a Texas Heat (150w) and a Cannabis Rex (50w) in my Fender cab, it worked perfectly with the Bassman. I need enough headroom to clearly reproduce the massive low end this amp pushes. I'd like something with a slight mid bump to compensate for the scooped eq of my amp, and a warm yet clear high end. What do you guys think? RE: Today is a good day - LesStrat - 05-14-2016 You need more gear...or a woman. One or the other.
