A Copywrite Paradox - Prog - 05-30-2008 So, who has the right to claim copyright protection? http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Music/05/30/music.radiohead.prince.ap/index.html A Copywrite Paradox - Securb - 05-31-2008 I have to side with the Purple One they have no control over his performance. A Copywrite Paradox - Prog - 05-31-2008 Could Radiohead be dicks and say Prince had no right to play their song if he does any sort of commercial release? I would say yes, but it sounds like all he did was perform one of their songs and it was recorded by attendees and put on YouTube. I am pretty sure that after 7 years anyone can cover the song without permission of the artist. The artist does get royalties. But you can not pick and choose who covers your work. I think the interesting thing with this story is Prince and Radiohead are on opposite sides when it comes to protecting their work. The time limit goes back to the 50's/40's when one act (usually a black act) would release a good song on a small label, then a bigger record company would "cover" the song with a bigger artist and better distribution within days/weeks of the release. This would totally block the original from the airwaves and kill its sales. So you can perform it at any time you just canââ¬â¢t record it. These record guy have always been dirty fucks. A Copywrite Paradox - Speng - 06-02-2008 In case anyone's curious, this is supposed to be the perfomance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HybDLWLrigo A Copywrite Paradox - 3dR3 - 06-03-2008 Speng Wrote:In case anyone's curious, this is supposed to be the perfomance: This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by PRINCE / NPG RECORDS FAIL. :) A Copywrite Paradox - Speng - 06-03-2008 That little purple fucker! |
