easy jazz/blues standards? - CTN - 06-23-2015 need some suggestions for fairly uncomplicated but nice sounding songs to add to the new band's setlist. It's gonna be a mix of covers and originals. Right now we've got: Feeling Good (going somewhere between the Nina Simone version and the Joe Bonamassa version) Ray Charles - Georgia On My Mind Ella Fitzgerald - Cry Me a River Etta James - At Last Beatles - Oh Darling George Benson - Summertime Jeff Beck/Imelda May - Remember walking in the sand, and Mr. Jailer Alannah Myles - Black Velvet Allman Bros - Stormy Monday Clapton - Layla (a jazzified version of the Unplugged version) Kinda looking for something that can go nicely in a smokey jazz lounge but with a bit more attitude. RE: easy jazz/blues standards? - Snake Aces - 06-23-2015 I'll toss some ideas your way: B.B. King - Thrill is Gone Jonny Lang - Darker Side Dead Weather - I Can't Hear You Black Keys - These Days Any song by Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings Led Zeppelin - Since I've Been Loving You Mike Ness - No Man's Friend Nancy Sinatra - These Boots are Made for Walking Santana - Black Magic Woman The Doors - Riders on the Storm Rolling Stones - I Got the Blues Tom Waits - Blue Valentine Tom Waits - Virginia Avenue RE: easy jazz/blues standards? - Oinkus - 06-23-2015 Kansas City works most anywhere,Blues 101. RE: easy jazz/blues standards? - CTN - 06-23-2015 ehhh. I don't wanna do blues 101. It's boring and predictable. 4th year seminar in blues.... that I could definitely go for. I forgot, but I wanted to do SIBLY and discussed it with my singer a few weeks ago. I have to work up the courage to not screw it up horribly. RE: easy jazz/blues standards? - Snake Aces - 06-24-2015 I know a few licks from SIBLY but I've never really sat down and learned the whole thing. That solo is insane as fuck though. Not impossible but it would take me some time for sure. RE: easy jazz/blues standards? - CTN - 06-24-2015 I'd probably use a few cues to hit the familiar/awesome peaks, and fill in the spaces with my own improvisation. Wouldn't want to play it note for note anyway Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk RE: easy jazz/blues standards? - Snake Aces - 06-24-2015 (06-24-2015, 04:41 PM)CTN Wrote: I'd probably use a few cues to hit the familiar/awesome peaks, and fill in the spaces with my own improvisation. That's how I'd tackle that song too for sure. The only Zeppelin song I've ever played note for note including the solo is Whole Lotta Love. Much easier to learn than most of their songs. RE: easy jazz/blues standards? - Securb - 06-26-2015 Dont do Black Velvet, that song is a punchline for cover bands with female leads. RE: easy jazz/blues standards? - CTN - 06-26-2015 it's so good though! |
