I have an idea! Help needed - kinnikuman - 07-09-2015 I was brainstorming some ideas of a way to have a ultra simple/clean electronics cavity free guitar and i though why not make an extension/tunnel in the humbucker route to accommodate a pot? Its the sweet spot for a volume knob imo so it would work for me. Now i think i could tunnel out in there using a 30mm slot cutting router bit but the problem is i will be around 8mm off the target to get a pot in. I can only use a 30mm slot bit because that's the rough width of a humbucker cavity Does anyone have any ideas to achieve this mod?
RE: I have an idea! Help needed - Securb - 07-09-2015 That is going to very close to the pickup maybe closer than a strat. I can see the knob being in the way RE: I have an idea! Help needed - CTN - 07-09-2015 Placement preferences aside, if a 30mm diameter bit is the max you can use, the you aren't going to be able to pull this off. With zero clearance from the humbucker and using a mini volume pot to save space... It's still a 16mm pot and you won't be able to cut the slot deep enough for the whole of the pot's body to be out of the way with the bearing riding up against the side. Youd probably be able to get a 10mm deep cavity, max. Forget full sized 24mm pots. Your best bet is probably to route it out completely with a straight bit, make a ledge, and glue on a panel that the pot would mount onto. It'd sure make electronics maintenance a pain in the ass. You could just rear mount it like a sensible person. [emoji14] No Darth, not that rear mount. Now get away from that dog. Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk RE: I have an idea! Help needed - kinnikuman - 07-09-2015 just and idea sluts. anyway its micro nap time. RE: I have an idea! Help needed - GoldenVulture - 07-09-2015 Have fun getting the pot in. I think you'll find these things have been explored before and didn't cut it , so to speak. RE: I have an idea! Help needed - lreese - 07-09-2015 Chamber it that way and utilize a top, al a les Paul. RE: I have an idea! Help needed - lreese - 07-09-2015 Another way that would require a little planning... Utilize a multi-piece body, make the seam at the edge of the HB route. Route a void right where you want the volume pot to be on the lower piece of wood. RE: I have an idea! You could make it large enough for a tone knob then hehee RE: I have an idea! Help needed - kinnikuman - 07-09-2015 (07-09-2015, 05:33 PM)kinnikuman Wrote: Haha i was coming back on now to say that. How often do you do it with those alpha pots. HA!? It could be taken out with the pickup in one go |
