I've always been fascinated with devices that let you get synth tones out of a guitar/bass. This thing is on a whole different level than everything I've ever seen before. Skip to about 1:40 to hear the righteous tonez.
For those that don't know, this is an improved version of the old Akai Deep Impact. Considering those go for about a grand these days, $380ish would be cheap for an exact replica, but this thing goes even further by giving you 90 more presets than the original had, midi control, and apparently it can do way more.
I NEED IT. I don't just mean I want it, I kind of legitimately need it for my band. How else am I gonna get a bass tone close to "Jive Talkin," "Funkytown," and so much more? I seriously need this thing.

It is cool but I am trying to get my tone more and more organic.

If I were still only playing guitar, I would be in the same boat.
But my band seems to be heading in the direction of doing new wave/disco/funk/etc, and being able to do synth bass lines is essential for that kind of music.
I wouldn't want to do "The Safety Dance" with just a bass and an amp.

Go to the Godlyke TWA website http://www.godlyke.com/totally-wycked-audio-effects-pedals/hand-built the octave synth and little dipper both do that superbly but not remotely cheap.

Yeah, but the Future Impact does infinitely more, plus it has midi and 100 presets.

Part of me actually really likes The Safety Dance. It's a part of me that I hate, but it's a part of me nonetheless.

I think there might be a synchronization issue, as I've heard this thing had the best tracking of any synth unit that isn't pitch to midi.
I'm getting one soon (supposedly) so I'll let you know how it is.

Sound On Sound magazine just published a review of the pedal in their August 2016 edition. By and large, the write-up is favourable. The pedal is obviously excellent value for money.
Speaking for myself, I would want polyphony and more foot control options for live, real-time sonic mayhem. This would involve spending considerably more money.
By the most amazing coincidence, I just acquired a nearly new BOSS GT-100 Version 2 at a crazy low price. The v.2 software revision allows the unit to serve as a polyphonic guitar-to-MIDI converter without recourse to 13- or 24-pin umbilical cables.
Guitar > instrument cable > GT-100 v.2 > MIDI cable > Creamware ASB MiniMax = Wow!
