I haven't even heard it yet. Probably because I do not listen to the radio.
But I saw Coldplay a few years back, I quite enjoyed them. I like their first 2 albums, haven't heard peep from the last one.

LOS ANGELES - Rock guitarist Joe Satriani has sued British band Coldplay, accusing the Grammy-nominated stars of plagiarizing one of his songs.
Satriani's copyright infringement suit, filed Thursday in Los Angeles federal court, claims the Coldplay song "Viva La Vida" incorporates "substantial original portions" of his 2004 instrumental "If I Could Fly." The 52-year-old guitar virtuoso is seeking a jury trial, damages and "any and all profits" attributable to the alleged copyright infringement. Coldplay, whose soaring atmospheric tunes are often compared to those of Irish rock band U2, received seven Grammy nominations on Wednesday, second only to rapper Lil Wayne. Among its mentions were nominations in the key record and song of the year categories for "Viva La Vida," which comes from the band's chart-topping album "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends." The song is credited to the band's four members, singer Chris Martin; bass player Guy Berryman; guitarist Johnny Buckland; and drummer Will Champion. The title was inspired by a painting by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. The Satriani track comes from his album "Is There Love in Space?" Further comment from Satriani's attorney, or reaction from Coldplay's management was not immediately available.
Will it blend? That is the question.

Wow, the comparison of Satch vs. Coldplay was obvious. Apparently money and fame continues in the business even with a bad reputation. The world is so forgiving these days. They will both make a fortune and the court business is an upside for both parties. Go figure.

According to the BBC News Todayââ¬Â¦. Coldplay have denied, in a US federal court, that they copied parts of rock guitarist Joe Satrianiââ¬â¢s music for their hit song, Viva La Vida. Lawyers for the band argue that any similarities between the song and Satrianiââ¬â¢s If I Could Fly were not enough to warrant damages. Mr Satriani sued Coldplay in December, claiming they had used ââ¬Åsubstantial, original portionsââ¬Â of his 2004 song. He is seeking a jury trial, damages and ââ¬Åany and all profitsââ¬Â from the song. In court papers filed in Los Angeles, Coldplay also claim Mr Satrianiââ¬â¢s song ââ¬Ålacks originalityââ¬Â and should not receive copyright protection. The guitaristââ¬â¢s lawyer, Howard E King, said Coldplayââ¬â¢s response was typical for copyright infringement cases and he reiterated that he thought the matter could have been resolved without legal action. Following Mr Satrianiââ¬â¢s claim in December, Coldplay said in a statement on their website that the 52-year-old ââ¬Ådid not write or have any influence on the songââ¬Â. ââ¬ÅIf there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental and just as surprising to us as to him,ââ¬Â they added. |
