I'm seriously bummed about Pete's death. I was shocked as Hell when I came here this morning and saw the news. Type O were the only band who's cd I would make a point of buying the date it was released. I'll be watching their DVDs and listening to their cds over the weekend.

They always put on a great show. They'd play smaller, more intimate venues which really suited the music. I forgot I have some bootleg videotapes I bought in the late 90's from couple of their local shows.

They were just here at the end of October, I wish I'd seen them this time around.

They have a live DVD out, Symphony for the Devil, which is really good. It's footage from an open air festival in Germany.

It is with great emotion, continued heartache and collective sorrow that the family of Peter Ratajczyk (Steele) remembers that on this day, only a year ago, we lost our only brother. To the world he was an acclaimed songwriter, lyricist, musician, artist, and singer; to us he was the heart of the family and love of our life.

While battling many demons in his life, he poured out his emotions in lyrical creations that would make you cry, scream or laugh. Along with hallowed music, Peter had that ability to translate love, hate, fear and sorrow into music notes that could bring even the strongest man to his knees in acknowledgment of his feelings. From his musical legacy we learned to feel and express deep-pitted emotions with a driving beat and strong voice, crying the very words we wish we could utter.

But it was the fans that understood Peter the most. It was the fans who understood his self-depreciating humor, his love of a good joke (even when it was at his expense), his playful on-stage persona, and his sarcastic, analytical way of looking at the world that only Peter could put into words.

The family thanks the adoring fans, the long-time friends, the amazing musicians that have graced Peter's presence and the photographers and artists who have captured his likeness and beauty for every kind word, offered prayer, beautiful letter, gracious hug, and a bounty of support during this horrendous time. You know who you are and we will always embrace you for it.

In the past few months a couple of writers tried to dishonor Peter's legacy by concentrating on his failings and mistakes rather than honoring him for the weight he bore for us all. Please remember these wonderful things about Peter: his genius for writing music & lyrics, his gifted orchestration, his artistic design of album covers, performance backdrops, and inventive printing fonts and logos; his magnetic ways with the audience and fans; his talent for words and languages; his insatiable desire to study science, engineering and war strategy; his love of animals and children; his way of making everyone feel more important than himself; and his generosity and gentlemanly ways.

We encourage everyone who was ever touched by Peter Steele to tell the world about their feelings. We thank you for standing up and acknowledging our brother with the respectful and dignified tributes that a man of his talents, abilities and accomplishments deserves.

Thank you,
The Family Of Peter Ratajczyk Steele

Peter Thomas Ratajczyk (January 4, 1962 – April 14, 2010),[1] better known by his stage name Peter Steele, was the lead singer, bassist, and composer for the gothic metal band Type O Negative.[2] Before forming Type O Negative, he had created the metal group Fallout and the thrash band Carnivore.[3]

This should be good:

Noted metal journalist Jeff Wagner to author biography of the late leader of Type O
Negative, Peter Steele.

Jeff Wagner (Mean Deviation book, former Metal Maniacs editor) is currently
assembling his next book, Soul On Fire – The Life and Music of Peter Steele. The book
will be, in Wagner’s words, “a thorough telling of Peter’s life, from his ‘diaper days’ to
his death. It will not only include analysis of the music he created in Type O Negative
and Carnivore -- and the many triumphs and personal tribulations that came along
with it -- but also let fans in on the details of his early days. The book will also feature
numerous images from throughout his life, on stage and off. Peter’s fans miss him, and as
a follower of his music since 1986, I’m proud to put together this tribute for them. While
warring factions within the story have already been heard, my mission is simple:
cut through the crap and tell one of the most extraordinary stories in modern music, with
great respect to the subject himself.”

Culled from a variety of sources, including recollections from band mates, family,
close friends and record label reps, Soul On Fire is an accurate account of
Steele’s creative genius and incredibly complex personality. Steele was a visionary and
a provocateur; a generous friend and a self-deprecating hedonist; a band mate and a
brother. His struggles with addiction and his acceptance of the Catholic faith
he grew up with and then grew out of…all of this is surveyed and detailed within Soul On
Fire. The book is due for publication in October, 2013.
