Has Guitar Hero gone too far?
#1
I haven't played GH3 and I don't own a PS3 or 360 (yeah, I know it's also on PS2). There was a local contest a while back where some 12 year old impressed people with "Through the Fire and Flames" by Dragonforce. I have the first two games. They were fun and challenging. It was a struggle, but I eventually got through every song, at least on the medium difficulty. But, as an average player, what is the fun with this song or similar? There is no way I could ever get through it. This series started as fun and a great party game. Now, the focus seems to be on finding songs that will eliminate 3/4 of the audience. Nothing wrong with making a game challenging, but going for the uber-player who spends 8 hours a day playing video games doesn't seem the way to go.

Will it blend? That is the question.

I lost interest in GHIII after the Medium level. It turned into a hardcore video game rather than a party game at Hard.

So, would you buy another game knowing you'll only play about 1/2 of it?

So, then your agreeing with me. A fun game has been turned into a ultra competive one that will alienate the casual audience it attracted. Rock Band and GH World Tour are nice games, but I'm a solo player and it makes no sense to buy them. Guess I'm just falling out of the target audience.

if you're going to play a virtual guitar for 8 hours you might as well pick up a real one and learn to play....

at least a real guitar song will get you laid.... this, who knows?

i've watched my BIL play this... perfectly. he's a gamer though... i am not..

Actually, to answer your question this time, I probably wouldn't have bought it in the first place if the review copy didn't appear at my house, so yes, I am agreeing with you.

Turning the question around though... would you buy the game if it was just the easy and medium levels? Thats all I really played, and it was alot of fun, but if that was the entire game you'd like it and still pay the same amount for it as you would with the additional 2 levels on it.

No. I have no problem with a game being hard. If I need a few dozen tries to get through a final level or two, that's fine. But, look at the DragonForce video. There's no way. I understand it's an extra song, but what's the point of it being there. And, it's getting in these games where the last tier on hard is nearly impossible for an average player to beat. I'll work for it if I feel the need to beat the game. I don't fool with the extreme difficulty (or All-Madden on that game). Nothing wrong with having a level for the better players. In this case, Guitar Hero has lost the early focus on being a fun game with cool songs.

but you can't leave good enough alone...

If they don't make the successive games harder or more interesting, what is the point in trying to market and sell it?

GH seems like one of those games that will constantly be in flux with new music and different things to do..... look @ Rock Band for example...

Took guitar hero and managed to sell additional gaming pieces, drums, mic... you see more money.

Money, it's what all this is about in the end anyway...

They need to let me pick the songs huge grin

Granted, you can't just keep releasing the same game over and over (unless, your EA Sports), but not every game has to be something "different". The gameplay in GH is very limited. They have done some tweaks and added different things, which has been good. To me, GH2 fixed some problems with 1. 3 added online play. Not much left to do. I think they should just stick with the "expansion" packs, but not at new game full prices.
