A child was mauled by a dog and then shot on Detroit's west side earlier Sunday night.

It happened on the 7600 block of Warwick on Detroit's west side.

According to police, the 7-year-old was attacked by a dog and mauled. Then, a neighbor came outside and attempted to help the child by shooting the dog. The neighbor accidentally shot the child instead of the dog.

The kid was taken the hospital but there is no word on the condition.

TV Reporter Heather Holmes Robbed During Live Report On Robbery (VIDEO)

A TV journalist reporting on crime in Oakland Monday night became part of the story when she was robbed while on the air.

KTVU's Heather Holmes was doing a live report on a woman who was robbed and beaten until Good Samaritans came to her aid when the theft occurred, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Holmes' purse was inside an unlocked news van parked just steps away from the crew and across the street from police headquarters. But when the camera stopped rolling, Holmes learned that someone had swiped the bag.

BANTAM, Conn. — A 49-year-old Connecticut man faces threatening charges after a woman told police he stabbed a watermelon in a passive-aggressive manner.

The Register Citizen of Torrington reports (http://bit.ly/1p1L3rS) Carmine Cervellino of Thomaston was arraigned Monday on charges of threatening and disorderly conduct. He was released after posting a $500 bond.

Police say the woman had gone to police on July 4 to report finding drugs, including marijuana, in Cervellino's tool box. He was not arrested.

They say she later returned home to find the watermelon on the counter with a butcher's knife in it. She reported that Cervellino then entered the room and began carving the watermelon. She called the incident passive-aggressive and menacing.

No one answered a phone call Tuesday morning to the Cervellino home seeking comment.
