Without access to the pickups that I've been debating between, I'm left to ask you guus annoying questions lol.

Yeah it sounds like it does the trick for the low strings on 7/8 string guitars, but the other strings are a bit of a compromise.

You're acting like a baby fucking goo goo, Just buy so0mething awesome and try it. I just played my destroyer for a hour or so and it has a super distortion in it. Fuck they are the best pups.

Seriously tho you already got a bunch of good suggestions, I'd suggest going with an x2n to start off with to bludgeon your preamp like you originally wanted. It is a great pickup that IMO all metal guitarists or ppl who like tons of preamp drive should try.
