He is obviously playing the wrong pups.
Maybe someone should send him a Fralin, or BK to play with. If he's atleast open to accepting that it's a humbucker, it should change his mind.
I'll agree partially. Most Low level, generic, humbuckers do suck. Those Epi waxbuckers are horrible, and sound just as he describes. But, there is a huge difference in them and a higher lever, or custom pup. Good pups come alive compared to cheap shit.
I think he's lacking experience with good pups, amd has no idea what he's really talking about. He's probably owned nothing but Strats/super strats, and has no idea what a real HB sounds like in the right guitar.
