I have heard of one person indeed wearing out Stainless - its not that hard of an alloy. Probably hard enough to be a B***h to grind/polish and definitely requires different technique to install.

I attribute my refrets on nickel-silver so far to destruction by an embecile - Me. That's not saying I havent't put wear on a set. I've now learned the magic of burnishing.
