Itââ¬â¢s as American as all-get-out. Carlââ¬â¢s Jr. (AKA Hardeeââ¬â¢s here in the South) has long been one of Americaââ¬â¢s best-known burger chains, and while they do have a 1400-calorie monster burger, theyââ¬â¢ve been relegated to an also-ran lately thanks to weird new food items like the Friendlyââ¬â¢s grilled-cheese burger melt, the KFC double-down, and even the Burger King pizza burger. Not anymore.
Determined to regain a slice of Americaââ¬â¢s attention, Carlââ¬â¢s Jr. is unveiling an 850-calorie, foot-long cheeseburger sandwich at 50 restaurants in California. If it goes well there, itââ¬â¢ll make tables nationwide.
The burger is a belly-busting beast. On a foot-long sub roll, you put not one, but three, cheeseburgers. A foot of meat and cheese will run you $4, with a $4.50 deluxe version (adding lettuce and tomato) also available.
I donââ¬â¢t see how this thing wonââ¬â¢t become a huge hit. If thereââ¬â¢s one thing Americans love, itââ¬â¢s getting a whole lot of food for very little price, and the price tag for a superburger is roughly the same as three normal cheeseburgers, but with additional bread and toppings. Itââ¬â¢s big, but itââ¬â¢s not too big for the average eater.
