I don't think it was supposed to be exciting.
It's actually very somber.
Jax knows he has to die, and all he has to do before that is wrap up all his business. That's what the finale is - with a heavy heart, he wraps up all his shit, makes sure his family and club are all safe, and ends it.
Pretty uncomplicated as far as series finales go. I think it was a good way to go out. Better than trying to wow everyone.
