It was a wildly different band at the time. They used to just be called "Hybrid Theory" and we're heavy as Andre the Giant's balls. Then albums came out, money came in...and they changed to appeal to the same "mall metal" crowd that Slipknot capitalized on. Then they re-released their EP with their new sound and lost me.
It's one of those experiences that you have to be there for. A cathartic representation of a young and hungry band becoming a corporate monster and alienating the very fans that elevated them to that level. I haven't listened to them since.
The best concert I've ever seen was TOOL. That was a phenomenal production.
