I agree with you 100%. I consider myself a very good tipper. In restaurants, I typically start at 20% and go up from there for the very reasons that you mentioned. When I'm getting a haircut, I tip the girl about 20-25%. Guy comes to my house to fix something, I toss him a ten spot if he isn't a dick.
But, I detest tip jars on counters in Wendy's, DD's, and other such establishments. I always have to resist the urge to knock them on the floor. Particularly Wendy's, who can NEVER get my order right.
The people that work in these places make minimum wage, at the very least. Unlike servers in restaurants, or bartenders, they are not making 2.25 an hour. Having a tip jar is a disgrace and should be banned everywhere.
