Enter the Serpent
#1
I had a first today. I've been living here in Rainbow for just on 14 years now. I was going along the path along side the house when a few feet ahead, a young brown snake about a foot long slithered across the path and under my house. They're still a very poisonesss snake even if young.
OK, it's breeding time so that means there's probably more around. It probably means that the adult has probably moved on though. A bit unerving still. I've got owls in the trees right where I saw the snake. Maybe they will get it, they both hunt mice.

Everything is upside down in Oz.

Brown snakes here are harmless. Plus they eat fire ants.
Because I said so.

Scary... Even Steve Erwin was a bit cautious with them. That should tell you something.
I hear Mexico is nice this time of year.

It was gone in 10 seconds. It moved very quickly. I'm glad it didn't come my way but it was running away. They tend not to attack unless you go after them. They prefer to slither away. Adult females will get aggresive during breeding.
My neighbour on one side had a large adult on the otherside of their poperty about a week ago and my neighbour on the other side had a young one in her front garden last week too. There is a small dam a few houses down and they tend to hang around there , plus we back onto large fields that crops are grown in. Plenty of mice and snakes that feed on them.

Stay safe - I'd want to kill it myself seeing they are that dangerous and near my domicile.

If it were something non-poisonous, I'd certainly leave it alone. As creepy as snakes are, they're preferable to rats.

Bad joke, but I just have to do it.

Spread about 4 jars of Vegemite around your house. That stuff will keep anything with an appetite away.  :toast:

You know...  You might just have persuaded me to try it.  Not sure where to get it other than Amazon.  The local Whole Foods has Maramite.  Maybe they do now since WF is Amazon.

I know there's a method to the madness - A super secret (bwahaha!) Aussie technique to make it palatable.  Something like you got to spread it and eat the bread while upside down... :wwe:
