Pittsburg, Calif. (AP) -- Police say a fifth grader brought special Fruity Pebbles treats to school on Monday: they contained marijuana.

Police say they were contacted after several fifth graders at Stoneman Elementary School shared nibbles of the sugary treat.

A couple of students told school staff, who contacted police and paramedics, said Pittsburg school superintendent Barbara Wilson.
The student who brought the treats to school knew they contained pot, police say. The student had obtained the treats from her adult sister.

The older sister told police she received the pot treats from a medical marijuana dispensary. Pittsburg police are investigating whether the sister had a legitimate card to obtain the pot.

Lieut. Brian Addington of the Pittsburg Police Department said the students who tried the treat had ingested minute amounts of pot.

A patrol cop with a sensitive schnoz was credited today with uprooting what authorities say is the biggest marijuana-growing operation in New Jersey's history.

Police last month raided six homes - several of them $1 million McMansions - and seized more than $10 million worth of cannabis growing inside under artificial lights, authorities announced today.

"While law enforcement in New Jersey has encountered high-tech indoor marijuana growing operations in the past, we have not seen anything to match the volume of production of this criminal enterprise," said state Attorney General Paula T. Dow.

The bust might not have happened if Officer Thomas Lucasiewicz had been suffering from a head cold. The Monroe Township cop was on patrol Feb. 12 when he smelled burning marijuana in an upscale Middlesex County community.

At first, Lucasiewicz thought somebody might be smoking a joint in a car parked nearby, said Sgt. Steve Jones, a state police spokesman.
"But with his bloodhound senses, he realized it was much stronger than he first thought," Jones said. "He followed his nose. Then he saw smoke rising from a chimney."

Overpowered by the scent, Lucasiewicz called his squad. When backup arrived, Lucasiewicz knocked on the door of the single-story ranch house.
They were greeted by a surprised man, "the gardener, essentially, who was burning some of the unusable parts of the plants in the fireplace," Jones said.

Lucasiewicz arrested the gardener, Thu N. Nguyen, 44, and, realizing he had uncovered a huge grow operation, called in the state police.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - When California voters head to the polls in November, they will decide whether the state will make history again - this time by legalizing the recreational use of marijuana for adults.

The state was the first to legalize medicinal marijuana use, with voters passing it in 1996. Since then, 14 states have followed California's lead, even though marijuana remains illegal under federal law.

"This is a watershed moment in the decades-long struggle to end failed marijuana prohibition in this country," said Stephen Gutwillig, California director for the Drug Policy Alliance. "We really can't overstate the significance of Californians being the first to have the opportunity to end this public policy disaster."

California is not alone in the push to expand legal use of marijuana. Legislators in Rhode Island, another state hit hard by the economic downturn, are considering a plan to decriminalize possession of an ounce or less by anyone 18 or older.

I was reading about that yesterday and talking about it with my friend in SoCal.

he thought a legalization of marijuana may help boost the economy in Cal by having people relocate to the state... who knows.

Not only will people relocate but a lot of the drug dealers will move out. This will make TX and NM the bases of opperation for dealers seeing people in AZ and NV can go over the border to buy weed legally in Cali.
