A former Miami Dolphins player was arrested for possession of marijuana Tuesday after attempting to pick up a prostitute near 25th Avenue and Cusseta Road, according to a Columbus Police Department report.
Police were patrolling near Cusseta Road at about 1 a.m. when an officer saw Donald Bessilieu, 57, stop to pick up a known prostitute that flagged him down. The officer also noticed Bessilieu's vehicle had no tag.
Bessilieu played safety for the Miami Dolphins between 1979 and 1981 after playing during college for Georgia Tech. He went on to play for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1982, and later played for the Los Angeles Raiders in 1983 and 1985.
During a search, officers discovered marijuana in Bessilieu's possession. He was charged with possession of Schedule II drugs and taken to Muscogee County Jail.
