A 30-year-old Spencer man is being held on $105,000 bail after allegedly injecting his girlfriendââ¬â¢s 3-year-old with heroin, police said.
Jeffrey LeBlanc told officers he was under the influence of drugs on Oct. 21, when he gave the girl a shot to make her feel better because she had been sick the night before, police said.
Officers went to a Grove Street home shortly after 4 p.m. on a report of a 3-year-old child ââ¬Ånodding off,ââ¬Â police said.
The girl, who was in LeBlancââ¬â¢s care at the time, was taken to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, where doctors found heroin in her system and a noticeable needle mark in the crease of her arm, police said.
The child has since recovered and is in state custody.
After an initial interview with police, LeBlanc allegedly told family and friends that he was fleeing the area to avoid pending criminal charges.
He was sought on a warrant for a probation violation and found on Nov. 13, hiding out at the Shrewsbury Green apartments, police said.
LeBlanc pleaded not guilty to unlawful dispensing of heroin to a minor, assault and battery on a child causing substantial bodily injury and reckless endangerment of a child, as well as unrelated breaking and entering and larceny charges.
