Abuse of power?
#1
Lately a moderator has been changing my signature and replacing images in my posts. Please stop!

Hey, I can take a joke, but this one isn't funny anymore.

A moderator's job is to monitor posts for duplication, relocate posts which are in the wrong section, and make sure the posters abide by the forum's rules of conduct. A monitor should not be messing around with profile information, or replacing content or images without due cause.

It is a strange feeling to come here and see my carefully chosen signature has been changed, or an image I spent 15 minutes Googling, copying to my desktop, uploading to Photobucket and linking to a post has been replaced. I feel like Daffy Duck in that cartoon where the artist keeps erasing and re-drawing his environment!

How would you feel if I put a "honk if you love Jesus" sticker on your vehicle bumper? You would think "Dang, everyone who sees this is going to think this is who I am." Well, how do you think I feel when my Miss Piggy quote is changed to "I love golden showers"...? It just ain't me, folks, it just ain't me.

I have been searching for some kind of statement on guidelines for moderators (some websites have them), but all I could find was this paragraph from the FAQ:

Moderators oversee specific forums. They generally have the ability to edit and delete posts, move threads, and perform other manipulations. Becoming a moderator for a specific forum is usually rewarded to users who are particularly helpful and knowledgeable in the subject of the forum they are moderating.

I said it before and I say it again: with great power comes great responsibility. If moderators are going to act irresponsibly, then at least give the same editing capabilities to all the members!

I am just speaking for myself not the site but maybe if you tried to adapt to the environment instead of trying to make the environment adapt to you this wouldn't happen. A men's website is not the place to post pictures of kittens and male models. Neither is it the place to share potty training stories, though many of us are fathers this is where we come to get away from that.

Many other women have posted to these forums over the years without running into these problems. None of these women have attempted to "put up the lace curtains" as you have stated you want to do.

If you want to put up lace curtains and pictures of kittens start your own website that is what Wimpy did with www.spillyourgutts.com which you can see isn't there anymore. Shows you how hard it is to run a successful website.

I think you need to take a deeper look at your Daffy Duck analogy. Many of the members may feel the same way when they come to a site they helped build and it is covered with kittens and shirtless guys. It isn't us that keeps re-drawing the landscape it is you.

What are you talking about great power ...responsibility? This isn't a heavily trafficked political forum or somewhere people come to get medical or financial advice. People come here to read fart & dick jokes and bullshit about beer, women and sports. I respect your passive aggressive request to be made a moderator but it's not happening. If it takes you 15 minutes to post a picture I don't think you are ready for the back end of the site.

Let me chime in here and let me start off by addressing the issue of "rights" while on this website. There is no "freedom of speech" or "equal rights" here. Everyone is afforded the rights, including the great power and great responsibility, that I provide them with, or allow them to have. When you look up and see "www.tmrzoo.com" on your browser, I am your daddy. Fortunately, I have a very liberal perspective on this website, and life in general, and I feel that as long as nobody is breaking the law, do as you will to have fun. I have had a great time on here, and I hope everyone else has as well. In that regard, I guess I am like the mom of a big family... I want everyone to be happy. Unfortunately, that sometimes cannot be accomplished and someone will get upset... so you try to achieve the greater good even though someone will be pissed or get hurt by it.

My goal, and the goal of the team here is to expand this community. Usually, guys find their way to the site here through an article, and we hope they click around, browse the forums, and stay awhile. If they come across something... like a shirtless dude or excessive bunnies and kitties, they will most likely close their browser and never come back. I probably would do that myself. So if a mod feels that there is something posted in here that is severely counterproductive to our goal, I support their decision. Again, I still feel we are very liberal in our practices here.

Let me expand on the "freedoms" that you do have here, Chocklit... ones that you most likely are unaware of. We have lost members, and even moderators, over some of your posts. And when I say lost, I mean left and never come back, or even quit as staff members. You may not have even known it, but you were banned for a very short period of time because a mod would get angry daily over your posts. I have always taken your side and disagreed with the ban, even when I have been put in a "her or me" situation. I have stuck to my "good of the people" guns and let one of my staffmembers, my friend, walk away and we have not communicated since.

What have you done to evoke such rage? You are constantly taking shots at the American military and belittling what they do for my country. You probably don't even know it but we have, or a should say had, several former servicemen on the staff here. These guys were in trenches getting shot at at the same age a candy-ass like myself had such stressful battles over which scholarship to college I should accept and which side of the dorm room I wanted to sleep on. And when I say trenches, I don't mean piles of soiled diapers and dirty dishes either. These guys saw their friends' guts spill out and die right in front of them... shit you and I can't even fathom and only see in movies. So when you use a picture of the burning Trade Center Towers on 9/11 as a punchline of a joke, or show sympathy for a kid who impersonates someone in the military, these guys are going to get strongly offended. You were even asked politely to show some class and remove the 9/11 picture and you sternly refused, but everyone still let your post stay the way it was.

I have lost members, staff and friends defending your right to post whatever you want in here, so in hindsight, taking a pic of a shirtless dude or a kitty cat down doesn't seem so bad, does it? Or do you still not get it?

You know, you don't need to put a picture in every single post...especially if it's taking you 15 minutes.

Meow! The question of the day is, does your daddy touch you inappropriately? I kid, I kid.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the honest replies. Not quite what I was expecting.

You have given me a lot to think about here.

I am working today, but I will post a reply soon.

Your friend,

Jacqui
