Brett Favre's No. 4 won't be retired this season
Mark Murphy, the Green Bay Packers' president and CEO, told reporters Thursday that while there had been "good conversations" between the team and Favre, a jersey retirement ceremony would not be held this season.
There had been speculation that Favre, who played 16 seasons for the Packers from 1992 to 2007, would have his jersey retired this season.
Asked if there were concerns fans would boo his appearance at Lambeau Field, Murphy agreed that was an issue. "He wouldn't want to come back to be booed," Murphy said.
But as time goes on, Murphy said it was less likely Favre would be booed.
Favre retired in March 2008 but decided to return to the Packers for that coming season. He was rebuffed by the Packers, who decided to go with Aaron Rodgers, and Favre ended up being traded to the New York Jets.
He played one season with the Jets and two more with the Minnesota Vikings before retiring after the 2010 season.
