Up where I ilve, we have been having a real cold snap with temperatures as low as -40C. It was a balmy -30C on Sunday when we headed south to spend Christmas with our kids. Road conditions were appalling. We nearly died twice on the trip down, once when an oncoming vehicle lost control and missed us by inches, and once when a sanding truck which we were passing decided to turn left without signalling. We also had to wait for over an hour while the police cleared a traffic fatality off the highway.
We arrived on sunny Vancouver Island to find several feet of snow and -4C temperatures. It almost never snows in southern BC. They don't have the snow removal equipment to handle it, and nobody has snow tires.
On the bright side, at least we had a white Christmas!

Ooops, I crapped my pants
