Austrian police say a man set his wife's parents on fire with a home-made flame thrower, killing them.

Chief investigator Anton Kiesl says the 48-year-old man set the elderly couple on fire as they lay in bed late Friday using a flame thrower he made from a propane gas container.

Kiesl said the woman burned to death in her bed and her husband's body was found on a bench outside their home in St. Magdalena am Lemberg in the southeast.

Both victims were in their 80s; the woman was bedridden.

Kiesl said Saturday the man fled and attempted to commit suicide by stabbing himself in the stomach. He is currently in an induced coma.

He must have had serious in-law problems.

British trucker suspended for behind-the-wheel TV viewing


LONDON - A British court has suspended the license of a truck driver who careened down a highway while watching episodes of "Battlestar Galactica" on a laptop computer atop his dashboard.

Police say Benjamin Trotman drove for 24 miles in northern England last December with one eye on the road and the other on the cult sci-fi show.
A traffic officer who pulled him over found the show still playing on his computer.

Trotman's lawyer claimed he had been looking at Google Maps while listening to the sound from the show. But Trotman pleaded guilty to dangerous driving at an earlier hearing.

A justice of the peace banned him from driving for 15 months.
He also was sentenced to 225 hours of community service and ordered to pay the equivalent of about C$1,000 ($1,400 US) in costs.

Police: Man Burned While Using Lighter To Siphon Gas

MUKWONAGO, Wis. -- Mukwonago police said a man was burned while using a lighter to steal gas from a van.

Police said the man lives in Wauzeka and was visiting friends. But when he went to drive home early Saturday morning he didn't have enough gas and attempted to siphon some from the van into his SUV, with help from a Mukwonago woman.

Police said when he couldn't see how much was in the container, he used a lighter to check.

A blast of fire burned his hands. Neighbors called police.

Police said he and the woman were found a short time later in a store parking lot.

He was arrested on charges of theft and negligent use of burning materials.

She was referred to authorities for being party to theft.

Formal charges haven't been filed.
