Man nabbed after hitting girlfriend with sandwich

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081118/ap_o...K6SjrtiBIF

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – A man faces a domestic battery charge after allegedly hitting his girlfriend with a sandwich as she was driving on Interstate 95 on Friday. Police said the 19-year-old man became angry and hit the woman in the arm and face with a sandwich, knocking her glasses off.

The victim nearly lost control of the car because she couldn't see the road and the man then allegedly ripped off the rear-view mirror and used it to shatter the windshield.

The man was freed on $7,500 bail.

Police haven't said what type of sandwich was involved.

WINDSOR, Ont. - A man from Windsor, Ont., who was jailed after cutting off a dog's ears, suffered a somewhat similar fate behind bars.

Police say Rony Salman was transferred to a jail in Chatham, Ont., after part of his earlobe was bitten off by another inmate during an altercation at the Windsor Jail.

The inmate, who has not been publicly named, is not facing any charges.

Windsor police Staff Sgt. Ed McNorton said police did not take action because there was no complainant in the case.

Salman cut the ears off his puppy and received a 90-day jail sentence after pleading guilty to animal cruelty charges in May 2007.

WEST HARTFORD - Police arrested an 18-year-old man who was posing as a U.S. Army sergeant while attempting to cash a check for $40,000 at a bank on South Main Street Thursday afternoon.

Orlando Ramos-Cabrera, of Hartford, was wearing a uniform he bought online, police said. He had also just purchased a 2008 Dodge Charger from a dealership in East Hartford with a phony check.

He is charged with first-degree larceny and illegal use of a uniform.
Police were dispatched at 4:06 p.m. to TD Bank North on a report of fraud in progress. Ramos-Cabrera was there in full uniform with "Special Forces" and "Calvary" patches.

He identified himself as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. But police officers who are military veterans quickly recognized Ramos-Cabrera was a fake, police said. The Dodge, parked in front of the bank, was seized as evidence.
