Way to go Phillies! Swept by the Mets in a 3-game series, all 3 games were shutouts.
I think I'll try out for the team and provide some run scoring ability. Just have some oxygen waiting for me at third... haven't played 90 foot bases in 20 years.

Can't do much worse. I don't think the Phillies have reached third base since Tuesday. Reminds me of Bruce in the 9th grade

It's an awful shame, what happened to that kid. and the umpire actually felt terrible about it. He sounded like he was on the verge of tears in his post-game press conference.
But you have to give Gallaragga and his manager Jim Leyland a lot of credit. They didn't blast the umpire at all. They blasted the system, and talked about what a shame it was that it happened.
The bottom line is, baseball is WAY overdue for instant replay, and if this doesn't put a proper system in place, nothing will.

This is a good instance to bring the replay issue to the forefront, but I think the league is stubborn enough to wait until a bad call ruins a championship rather than an individual performance.

Normally I would agree with that, but a perfect game is still one of the rarest feats in baseball, even if it would have been the third in 35 days, and the 2nd in less than a week, it still would have only been the 21st in baseball history. Just the fact that it would have been the 3rd in 35 days would have been amazing in itself.

Former
Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens reportedly will be indicted on perjury charges for lying at a Congressional hearing about his use of steroids.
The announcement is scheduled for later today, The New York Times reported on its website this afternoon.
The indictment comes nearly three years after Clemens and his former personal trainer, Brian McNamee, testified under oath before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
Clemens' testimony at the hearing in February 2008 directly contradicted what McNamee told lawmakers about the use of banned substances.

Here's a tip for some of the other fanbases out there... if you spit on a player's wife in the stands during a playoff game, maybe, just maybe, he won't want to play there when he's a free agent, and take less money to go elsewhere.
Cliff Lee agrees to $100M/5-year deal with Phillies, rejects $150M/7-year offer from Yankees
