Steve Smith's exit to Eagles stuns Giants

Quote:A rivalry that burns white-hot just went nova after the Giants were blind-sided last night by the news that receiver Steve Smith -- a player they never expected to lose -- signed with their chief nemesis, the arch-rival Eagles.

This is the latest and most shocking news to hit the Giants during this dispiriting training camp, a slap in the face no one saw coming.

The way coach Tom Coughlin was talking yesterday morning, the re-signing of Smith was a formality waiting to happen and the real key was getting the valuable but injured receiver back onto the field as soon as possible.

A rumor circulated Sunday that the Patriots could cut Chad Ochocinco or Albert Haynesworth. It was just the opinion of one non-Patriots executive, but the idea unsurprisingly caught fire in the Boston area.

Florio pointed out that cutting Ochocinco would be hard to imagine because of the financial implications.

Getting rid of Haynesworth would be easy financially, but there’s just not much reason yet to believe it will happen.

Saturday night’s Raiders-49ers preseason game was marred by violent incidents involving fans, including one man being badly injured in a beating in a Candlestick Park restroom, and two men getting shot in the parking lot afterward.

A 24-year-old man is at San Francisco General Hospital with what have been referred to as life-threatening injuries after he was shot following the game.

The victim was wearing a “F- the 49ers” T-shirt, and police detained a suspect who was wearing Raiders apparel.

C'mon, vomitting on a fellow fan during a regular season game is much worse than blowing a hole in an opposing fan after a pre-season game.

49ers to ban tailgating after game starts

This is not a bad idea. There are multiple owners of the lots around the Linc (Eagles, Comcast, private) so they wouldn't all coordinate an effort like this. I think beer sales cutoff times are going to keep moving up too.

Vick Gets $100M/6 year deal

Quote:Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles agreed on a six-year contract on Monday that again makes the Pro Bowl quarterback one of the highest-paid players in the NFL.

A source familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press the deal is worth $100 million, including about $40 million guaranteed. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because terms weren’t released.

After watching the Packers/Chiefs game last night, Todd Haley looks like a complete dick. It was eleven seconds into the game and he was already screaming like a lunatic.
